The Family Ticket’s Top 5 New Years Walks

New Years day for us is a bit like Boxing day. We like to go for a walk. whether you need to walk off the Jager bombs or you just need to get the hell out of the house because the either the kids, Partners, Dog or maybe all of them are doing your head in. Then Look no further than this hand little Guide. The Family Ticket’s Top 5 New Years Day Walks.

Now I’ve only done a top 5 because i can imagine you all have your own walking routes (mine normally involves a pub somewhere along the line). I’ve take the top 5 from my website so they’re all places i have Reviewed and in my opinion are good. Click on the bold names for the full blog and more details.

All of the walks i have picked in this top 5 are free and are dog friendly. However some do have restrictions in certain areas so keep your eyes peeled. Oh and don’t forget your poo bags. With it being the middle of winter it’s probably best to remind you to take suitable footwear, Waterproofs and a change of clothes. The kids and quite probably yourself will end up filthy. Remember change for the car parks too.

TOP 5

  • Island pond woods. This place is ideal if you Live close to Bicester and don’t want to travel too far. I found it later in the year and it really is a no frills lovely child friendly walk. Dogs are welcome too. Don’t forget to pack your Wellies though. Oh and there’s also a play park in Launton. At the end of the road some really tiny ponies and even a couple of pubs! Island pond woods
  • Rushmere Country park. I think i may have developed an unhealthy obsession with this one. As far as walking goes I’m always happy to be here. Some would say it’s my Happy place. If you’ve ever been you will see why. Every single time we go we discover something new. The kids love it, The adults love it and if i had a dog (I’d call it Colin) and he’d love it too. One of the most beautiful places I’ve been to and as you can probably tell. I get around a bit 😉  Rushmere Fairy doors

  • Irchester country park. Just down the road from Rushmere you’ll find this beaut. Again its another huge ass forest with so much for the kids to do to keep them occupied the whole way round. If they like dinosaurs they’ll love it here. Make sure you find out where the bones are though as it could be easily missed while you meander round. This place has the added bonus of having a pretty awesome play area too. If you or your kids are mad about trains then why not pick a day when their little museum is open too. Irchester Country Park
  • Dinton pastures country park. One of our most recent reviews has already made it into a top 5 and with good reason too. We were all so impressed with this place we cant wait to go back again. Awesome play area, multiple lakes, Shit loads of ducks (and other birds) to feed and a really good cafe too. Having a good cafe in a country park is a rarity, They are so hard to find. We couldn’t miss this one off the list especially as it was our boxing day walk.  Dinton Pastures
  • Brill Windmill. Another great local walk for us. What a cracking view it is too. Oxfordshire/Buckinghams very own mount Etna. Get yourselves up there for a cheeky pint at the Pheasant opposite while you wait for the sunset. You wont be disappointed with those views…..Unless its pissing it down maybe. Brill windmill sunset

I know its only a small list but that’s all your getting. If you want the website links for each place click on the review links (Bold writing) and you will find them all at the bottom of the pages.

I’m Always on the lookout for more places to walk. I need to shift some of this Christmas arse I’ve gained. Please let me know of anything you think we’d like or hate. Have a really great new year and I’ll see you on the other side.
