COVENTRY TRANSPORT MUSEUM

Today’s outing was a bit of an indecisive one. The Coventry transport museum was just under an hour away, free and indoors which was perfect for today’s shit weather. However I think it’s would be better if they renamed it Coventry partial transport museum because it was mostly bikes and cars.

Bit of a dump

Coventry I’m sorry but the town center is an absolute shite hole. Absolutely filthy. Rubbish everywhere and full of dodgy looking mo fo’s this instantly put us on edge. The roads are bloody horrible too (Tip don’t go to the Ikea)

Parked up in a pay and display which on a Sunday was £1 for the day. They don’t have their own car park so if you want to visit pay and display it is.

Fronts impressive and deceptively large inside. Now every thing inside is interesting and for free this museum is awesome! If i lived in Coventry I’d be happy to have this museum on my doorstep. Thankfully I don’t and we have the museum’s of Oxford on our’s.

Great for kids

This place is perfect for kids that like transport (nothing train related though unfortunately) Clark liked most things but soon got bored and just wanted food (shocker) Elliot just wanted to climb over every one of the restrictions to touch every thing and they pretty much argued the whole way round. Stress levels were high! I wanted to jump on the penny farthing and get the shit out of that place but I knew I was being unrealistic….no way would my legs reach the pedals!

There were lots of interactive bits for the kids to play with. About 50% if not less were working which pissed the kids off which pissed me off. Then I remembered it was free and I said no to the £5 guide which would have helped maintain these better so I sucked it up and shut up.

This place is better suited for older kids, Elliot was too much of a lose cannon and Clark has the attention span of a goldfish.

Air raid

They had some good bits like the air raid section with the flashing lights and the air raid sirens (smelt and looked a bit like a Saxon disco on a Saturday night though) the land speed cars towards the end were huge! Really impressive. You can pay for a simulator if you wanted too.

I’m running out of things to say really. It was pretty uneventful and a bit meh but I don’t want to hugely insult it either.

Coventry transport museum stats:

Distance from Bicester: 53mins
Sat nav: Millennium Place, Hales St, Coventry CV1 1JD
Wheelchair friendly: yes
Equipment upkeep: 5/10 interactive stuff poorly maintained
Cleanliness: 10/10 more than can be said for the town
Facilities: 10/10
Age range: 3 years plus
Safety: 8/10
Fun factor: 4/10
Dog friendly: No

Would I recommend this place? Kinda, if you have older kids or you’re out that way. Would I go again? No. Did the kids like it? A bit. Are there better places close by? Hell yes.

By the time you’ve paid for parking and petrol you could have paid entry to the British motor museum in Gaydon. You get a years pass too and you can push the smaller kids round in mini. Mini’s and last time we went their interactive stuff worked!
